Subsidies for regular road transport
Not every destination can be reached by rail. The road network also plays a role in local public transport. However, scheduled bus transport is not the responsibility of the state government; here, the district and municipal authorities are responsible for ensuring the provision of transport.
However, these local authorities can also receive funding from VMV for the operation of regular transport services if certain conditions are met. This is the case if the discontinuation of rail services makes the establishment of a bus connection necessary in the first place.
For this substitute transport, VMV can grant subsidies of 2.05 euros per timetable kilometre.
This funding option is regulated in the "Directive on the granting of subsidies for other public transport services in the event of the discontinuation of local rail passenger transport services in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" (SonstÖPNVVLRL).
