Land orders additional trains - More seating capacity in the season
From Monday 16 May, the well-known trains in the blue and white wave design on Usedom are getting reinforcements: the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has ordered additional capacity from Deutsche Bahn for the RB23 line from Züssow to Swinoujscie. The reinforcement was ordered by Verkehrsgesellschaft Mecklenburg-Vorpommern mbH.
During the summer season from 16 May to 3 October, the blue and white fleet will be supplemented by three diesel railcars of the type VT642 from DB Regio. Two of the vehicles will be in service at any one time, while one vehicle will be kept in reserve for scheduled maintenance and possible breakdowns. The additional vehicles, each with 123 seats, mean that particularly high-demand journeys can now be operated with three railcars instead of two.
Visually, the vehicles are a real eye-catcher, because the originally red vehicles are freshened up for use on Usedom and completely colourfully foiled on the outside. The depicted regional tourist highlights make you want to go on holiday and explore the sunny island.
As the railcars are among the few vehicles in Germany with a permit to travel to Poland, the trains will sometimes still be used for the humanitarian aid trains for Ukrainian refugees to Poland. That is why relief vehicles from southern Germany are still being used, especially at the beginning of the capacity expansion on Usedom.
