500 days mobility offensive MV

Press release by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Meyer: "Travelling at high speed"

"Our mobility campaign is having an impact. In the first 500 days, everyone involved has been travelling at full speed. The MV on-call buses are providing new mobility in more and more places - the number of users is doubling every week in some cases. With our Deutschlandtickets discounted to 29 euros, senior citizens and trainees from MV can travel cheaply throughout Germany. In the first year, our Deutschlandticket for senior citizens alone was sold more than once. More and more new regional bus routes are now connecting our towns and villages at close intervals." These were the words of Reinhard Meyer, Minister for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour, with regard to the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern mobility offensive presented 500 days ago (5 April 2023).

The aim of the MV mobility campaign is to create improved mobility with attractive offers, particularly in rural areas. To this end, three pillars of mobility are being strengthened and further developed: Local rail passenger transport is being expanded with new services and faster frequencies, and investments are being made in the rail infrastructure. Newly introduced regional bus routes will form a new network connecting the country's centres and rural areas. A system of on-demand buses is being introduced throughout the country, which will also enable people in smaller towns to be mobile without their own means of transport.

Reinhard Meyer: "The on-demand buses are already a real model for success and have been wonderfully well received. The on-call buses are already in operation in four out of six districts and the service is also being expanded step by step in the districts of Vorpommern-Rügen and Vorpommern-Greifswald."

The mobility offensive is also showing results in the expansion of rail services: "For the timetable change in December 2023, the state of MV has ordered around 1.2 million additional service kilometres, which is the largest increase in local rail passenger transport services since the rail reform in 1994/1995." However, it is also true that the many construction sites and the lack of personnel and materials at the railway are leaving their mark: "The decades-long investment backlog at the railway is slowing down our rail mobility offensive to a certain extent. It will take patience for the investments to take effect and the situation on the railway to improve across the board."
