Deutschlandticket: New price for trainees and senior citizens

Press release of the Ministry of Economy, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour

In the coming year, the state will continue to support trainees and pensioners in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with discounted Deutschland-Tickets. "Despite the complicated budget situation, we are sticking to the support of 20 euros per ticket. The discounted tickets are a successful model and must remain so." Reinhard Meyer, Minister for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour, said following today's cabinet meeting. The price of the discounted tickets for trainees and senior citizens will therefore rise from the current 29 euros to 38 euros on 1 January 2025.

Reinhard Meyer: "38 euros is a compromise between the constraints of a difficult budget situation and the urgent desire to be able to continue to offer the reduced tickets at an attractive price and to provide concrete support for our trainees and senior citizens. An additional charge of 9 euros per month is a pain point for many, but in the overall assessment and in view of the increased costs of local public transport, it is a justifiable step. The support from the state of 20 euros per ticket remains - that is also a sign of reliability."

Against this backdrop, the Minister once again emphasised the political will to keep the price of the Deutschland-Ticket stable. "In view of our mobility offensive for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, especially for rural areas, we need two things: an improved service and reliable prices."

Daniel Bischof, Managing Director of VMV Verkehrsgesellschaft Mecklenburg-Vorpommern mbH, adds: "At 38 euros per month, the Deutschlandtickets remain very attractively priced for senior citizens and trainees from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. With their validity on the Rufbus MV and Regiobus MV as well as on all local transport throughout Germany, the ticket offers remain an important part of the state's mobility campaign."

This was preceded by a decision by the conference of transport ministers of the federal states on 23 September, according to which the price of the Deutschlandticket will be raised from the current 49 to 58 euros at the turn of the year. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was one of two states not to vote in favour of this decision.

The discounted Deutschlandtickets were recently used by a total of around 50,000 trainees and pensioners in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern every month.
